Alain Vander Elst began his political career in Evere, where he has been living for over 30 years. "I ran my first campaign in 2000 in Evere. I became a CPAS counselor. A formative experience. In 2006, I became Alderman of Commerce. In 2012, I achieved the second highest score in the municipality behind Rudi Vervoort. I must have scared them because I was sent back to the opposition where I have been sitting since," recounts Alain Vander Elst with his characteristic frankness.

"I have my own path. After technical studies, I made my way and became an entrepreneur in the field of electricity. I have always defended liberal values where we learn to educate ourselves and to be free to achieve something. When I became Alderman of Commerce, I understood the expectations and remarks of the merchants," he adds.
